A Plague of Lotus

Had a great 4th of July.  We go hang out in Santee and play games most of the day, eat pizza, and watch the fire works near Rio Seco School.  Friends drop by off and on.  We are usually hanging out in the Food 4 Less parking lot.  This year Bree and Ally's boyfriend Mark came by and we played games.  One of our favorites is Apples to Apples.  We laughed out heads off when Bree read and "Plague of Locusts" as "Plague of Lotuses."  It's like the allergy commercial where they guy is being chased by giant flowers!  Mark read "Pegasus" as "Penguins."  Who needs drinking, when we are crazy enough!

Mark works at Starbucks... and keeps Ally supplied.  Sometimes I reap the benefits.

Here's an old patriotic pic of Ally... miss that kid!

Had our annual District Conference for the Pacific Southwest District of The Wesleyan Church.  I was up for a District Board position and somehow got enough votes for that.  Someone musta put in a good word for me somewhere.  That means four meetings a year in California and sometimes Arizona.  I can drive to most of them but will have to fly to northern California probably once a year.  It's a two year term.  Frank is on the Board, too -- so might get to see Thelma sometimes.  Fun!

After Conference we went out with the District Superintendent and his wife and Frank and Thel to see Midsummer Night's Dream near the Old Globe Theater in Balboa Park.  That was my first Shakespeare play and I actually enjoyed it.  Had to still hobble around in my walking boot, though.

Happiest Place on Earth

My mom and my sister and her family came to visit for a week.  I didn't know at the time my ankle was actually broken, but something was definitely wrong.  We went to Disneyland and I did get a wheelchair.  I hopped around a lot though... ugh!  I got a knee scooter for the time they were out here which helped, but we didn't go to the fair, and I skipped the zoo.  I was in a lot of pain and felt bad for not being able to do stuff, but I think they had a pretty good time.

It was good to see my nieces and family!
